This method of speed reading seems simple in principle. However, it is difficult to follow for perfect beginners. It is, indeed, not very natural to travel the lines at the speed of half a second per line. But this aims to condition your reflexes at a high reading speed. When you read to understand, you will notice that your real speed (that is, the speed at which you understand the text perfectly) has significantly increased.
It's almost miraculous!You must decrease the number of fixations and their duration per line to improve your reading speed. You do not read in a straight line, but rather in small jumps. Each of these jumps ends with a fixation, that is to say, with a temporary "photograph" of the text which you have in your field of vision at this moment and which is of the order of a few centimeters. In an untrained person, each fixation lasts between 1/4 and 1/2 seconds.
To convince you, close one eye and place a finger on that closed eye. With the other eye, slowly follow a straight line in front of you. You will feel the saccades and the periods of fixation of the eye.
